The invitation said “get ready to release your inner Peruvian!” Para ser bien honesto, until I received this invitation I did not realize there was an inner Peruvian in me to release. But since Pisco Portón was offering me a free sampling of their product, my immediate reaction was “why not?!” A couple of days later a pretty big box showed up at my doorstep. Certainly that’s not Peru’s national spirit, Pisco in that big box, I thought. As it turned out, it was! I’m definitely very grateful to Pisco Portón for sending me such a hefty sampling of their product.
So now we had to figure out how to best sample this spirit, in what cocktail combinations and all. You know all of that hard work, jaja! Well Pisco took care of this dilemma for us as well. They sent us a pretty comprehensive list of mixed drinks to make with Pisco Portón.
Everything from a “Mamacona,” with elderberry creme, to the “Ultimate Peruvian Margarita,” which also looked pretty tasty. In the end, we settled for the “Pink Passion,” which called for Pomegranate juice, Tangerine juice, sugar and Pomegranate as garnish, along with the Pisco of course.
But first, I had to try the spirit así nomás solito! This is when the real Peruvian in me started to come out, LOL! The shot went down much smoother than regular Mexican tequila, and didn’t even require the sliced lime on the side. A word of caution, however – the one shot was pretty strong.
So we followed the very specific instructions on how to make our “Pink Passion” drink (the recipe is below) and prepared for the final tasting test. It was really quite delicious… tasted just like the cocktails at some of the more swanky places I’ve been to. ¡Ya saben cuales! Where they charge you an arm and a leg for one single drink. I’m too codo for that!
Would I recommend Pisco Portón? Absolutely! That’s not the free spirit delivery in me talking either. I believe you might say, that’s the inner-Peruvian in me yelling “Pisco rocks!” And to think… there are so many more variations of this drink to still test out. ¡Ay, mejor me pongo a trabajar!
So here’s the recipe for “Pink Passion” using Pisco Portón:
