Last week, my friends at Ford had somewhat of a little surprise for me. For Easter weekend they wanted me to test drive one of their vehicles. Now, as you all already know, I’m no stranger to test driving Ford cars and trucks for the Ford Motor Company. Last year, I was one of their contestants in the nationwide F-150 EcoBoost Challenge. That experience was a real pleasure. I had a lot of fun representing my state, Texas in the competition. So, of course, it was very easy to say yes to taking the Ford Focus for a spin this past weekend.
I had heard a lot about the Ford Focus from television commercials, and others who own this make and model, but I’ve never really been a fan of small cars… so cómo qué no sabía if it was really going to be a good connection between me and the car, LOL!
As usual in these situations – ay, “as usual,” listen to me! – Ford delivered a brand new vehicle all the way from their headquarters in the Motor City, Detroit, Michigan. The shiny red color was already a good introduction for us.
Now there is a story behind this little photo collage. Before picking up the Focus, we had attended a luncheon here in Houston where my little carrito was on display. In order to get it out of the luncheon, which was held inside of a hotel, we had to drive it through the ballroom hallways, slightly into the ballroom, through the hotel kitchen, and into the freight elevator. It was quite the adventure, jajaja! I was so excited to have the car in the kitchen that I took like 20 pictures!
Once we got the car out of the hotel it was time to take this baby for a spin! Of course, we also had to take the obligatory picture together to commemorate our outing. We chose to do this in Houston’s East End near some random graffiti art along the side of the road. I had been wanting to visit this site for a while. Not too shabby, eh?
Then, we went to the park since I was not working on Good Friday and Edgar had been insisting we take him somewhere for the holiday. We spotted a bunch of quinceañeras having their pictures taken at Hermann Park – this is the “it” spot for having bride and quince photo shoots – and decided we should have one of them take a picture with our car since by this time I was already in love with the speed and ease of mobility of the Ford Focus.
Bueno, it was me who insisted. Anjelica and Edgar were ready to go and they weren’t really in the mood to sit around waiting for the “right quinceañera” to show up. This beautiful young lady showed up with her parents and I knew she was the right quinceañera for our photo. I went up to her father and asked him for the shot. He graciously agreed and asked me if I was from El Salvador as well. I told him no, and we continued chatting while Anjelica snapped these pictures.
Later that day, we stopped at another park just to hangout. Edgar was monkeying around and Anjelica was immediately inspired. She drove the car over and parked it right there while Edgar continued to play. This is my favorite picture from this weekend. It just looks so awesome!
Right now I’m still driving the Ford Focus around. They have not asked for it back and shhh… I’m keeping mum about it too! Cómo qué ya me gusto la idea de mi jefita, “¡mejor diles que te regalen un carrito mijo!” What do you say Ford? I’d be mighty grateful, LOL!
Seriously though, I am a little surprised by just how in love with this car I am now! Not only is it compact, very maneuverable, easy on the wallet with the great fuel efficiency, very comfortable for our small family of three, but it is also so tech savvy as well!! Everything can be done via voice command or through the touch screen on the dashboard. In case you can’t tell from the photo above, we’ve kind of been using the heck out of the touch screen. At one point this weekend I told Anjelica “man, driving this phone is really convenient!” She laughed and reminded me I was not driving a phone. “Well you know what I mean,” I responded, LOL!
When I’m ready to buy a new car I actually already know which one I want. This one! Although, I will still gladly take a free one también.
