Modern Mexico Turned Into Art

It’s always a great day when I can dress up this website with some beautiful art.  Now I wouldn’t say that I’m much of an art connoisseur – I’m not.  La verdad is that I probably wouldn’t know high art if it bit me in the ya saben donde.  Still, the ability to turn the mundane into something beautiful  has always been something I’ve loved and admired.  That’s precisely what Mexican artist and photographer Alejandro Cartagena does best.  I’m so glad to have finally discovered him online (he was actually here in Houston last year and I had no idea).

There’s a certain honesty and sweetness in his pictures, I think.  Whatever it is, I can’t wait to see more and more of it in the future.  These are just a couple of my favorite pieces from his website.  You should check it out when you get a chance.  At 32, the Monterrey native has quite the impressive body of work.
