So it’s really no secret. I do love watching telenovelas! Especially when the storyline and actors are as good as the ones on Lo Que La Vida Me Robó. I’ve said it before. I have no qualms about telenovelas being too sexy or too dumbed-down, or even too discriminatory against anyone.
I’ve grown up watching telenovelas and I see them simplemente as that. Entertainment. Entertainment that requires very little thought and only a lot of oohing and ah-ing at the albeit sometimes bizarre and over the top story lines.
Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, with Angelique Boyer and Sebastian Rulli, is neither, and that’s why I am so hooked. Every night I’m sitting in front of my television making what my niece refers to as my telenovela face. Apparently we all have one as she acted out my sister’s and my mother’s telenovela-watching faces this weekend.
My mom puts her hand to her mouth and sighs “¡yyyyy!” My sister, at least according to my niece, raises her eyebrows as far as they will go and bulges her eyes out every time something dramatic happens. In other words, every couple of minutes before the commercial breaks. Me. Well I’ve noticed that I giggle a lot. I giggle when something funny happens. I giggle when something tragic happens. No, not because I’m evil, but because I know it’s fake. And every once in a while I do let out a deep hum of suspense “mmmm.”
I love telenovelas. I do.
I also know that’s true because sometimes I’m laying in my bed watching the latest episode of my novela on Hulu when I have missed the previous episode for whatever reason. Oh yeah, and DAYUM is my telenovela getting good right now!
