So since the last vlog I’ve obtained a new video camera that my wife purchased at a very good deal. Something like $20 for it at a major retailer…and it’s HD and everything. Very cool! Only I was so impressed by its bells and whistles that I was afraid to use it until now. My mind literally couldn’t think of anything to talk about on a video, lol.
Words are SO much easier!
But since yesterday was Ash Wednesday and we sort of ended up at church inadvertently at the last minute, it gave me inspiration, and more than anything the courage, to actually film myself on this new camera, which by the way has a side panel that makes it very distracting to look straight into the camera only (I’m not used to seeing myself while filming). Anyhow, the subject matter of this vlog is pretty self-explanatory: Ash Wednesday, Random Acts of Kindness, and Paying it Forward.
Hope you like it.

Wow, Suegra got a shout-out on Youtube from THEE Juan of Words… jajaja. Love it 🙂
I like your honesty with the video – the lack of a script like we’re just having a chat and randomness, skipping topic to topic. I can tell that you’re a little distracted though! Maybe you need to tape a piece of paper over the screen so you won’t be mesmerized with your own handsome face. LOL.
We didn’t go for Ash Wednesday this year. It was rainy and cold and Carlos broke his car trying to fix something so no cenizas for us.
I like the idea of just being a better person generally instead of giving up a specific habit.
As for getting confirmed – why is there so much red tape to do things in the Catholic church here in the U.S.? We had our oldest son baptized in El Salvador almost without issue, (they misspelled stuff on the certificate though…SIGH.) When we wanted to baptize our second son here – they wanted us to do “charlas” and our padrinos had to show paperwork proving they were Catholic and actually married, etc, etc, etc. Even then we had to pull strings to get the certificate because the priest shouldn’t have actually performed the ceremony according to the “rules” because I’m not Catholic and Carlos and I didn’t marry in the Catholic church… What a headache. Didn’t Jesus say “Let the little ones come unto me?” — not “Let the little ones come unto me if the parents can put forth proof of …” — If I were you, I’d definitely wait to just take care of it in Mexico!
Love the story about the man paying for the homeless guy’s lunch. I hope it inspires an epidemic of random acts of kindness.
wow juanito, I like it I didn’t go to get my cenisas el wednesday, pero si ayune.
Frankie, que bueno que ayunaste…a mi se me paso, uups!! Pero lo voy hacer….tendre que hacer un mejor intento 🙂 Gracias por el comment.
Traisy, you’re Suegra has been such a source of entertainment for me since I first discovered your wonderful blog, that I had to give her a shout out eventually. jajaja! About me being distracted, how embarrassing (me estoy volviendo rojo)…ahora me van a tachar de vanidoso, uuff ;-( Pero bueno, de lo otro…si creo que me espero hasta que vaya a Mexico. My brother who got kicked out of Confirmation classes with me and my mother both still believe it was all my fault that they kicked me out, but I think they should have just let me get confirmed. I had already been “going” for almost a year and they caught me off guard asking me to name three of the sacraments of the Catholic faith , cold turkey! I needed prep time…lol. In all seriousness, I did deserve getting kicked off and ahora la fe y la religion are two things that I do take very seriously. I have faith y no me averguenza decirlo.
Gracias, Tracy!
LOL! Don’t be embarrassed! … I just sense that your eyes are completely connecting with the camera some of the time.
As for being kicked out of Confirmation classes – it’s just one of those things that makes me wonder “WWJD” (What would Jesus do?) … As you know, I’m not super religious, I struggle with spiritual faith, but the teachings of Christ are valuable – kindness, compassion, do onto others, mercy, forgiveness, etc… Sometimes it seems the church, (Catholic or otherwise), should go back to simpler virtues like that instead of making it all so difficult. Ni modo, I don’t want to go down that controversial road!
I hope that the violence in Mexico comes to an end some day in the near future – for the sake of Mexico and her people,… and so you can go take care of your Confirmation 🙂
Oops. That should be “aren’t” completely connecting.
I can’t help not being embarrassed, but I’m going to try to be more sinverguenza…at least with this vlogging aspect of my blog 🙂 About faith and religion, I can understand what you’re saying – I think at the end of the day, my philosophy is that faith is faith and that it doesn’t really matter that much what religion one is, as long as we believe in the principles of doing good, trying to be good people, etc. Just my thoughts, but anyway, next video I will work on the eye contact, ja ja ja!

As for faith, I agree that doing good and being a good person is what’s important.
